In Warhammer 40,000 Crusade, your army represents a persistent military force. To prevent players from fielding overwhelmingly large collections and to simulate the logistics of a real campaign, Crusade uses a resource called the Supply Limit. Managing this limit is the foundation of roster building and team campaign progression.
What is the Crusade Supply Limit?
The Supply Limit is the maximum total points value of all units listed on your Order of Battle (your master roster). By default, a new Crusade Force starts with a Supply Limit of 1000 points.
The sum of the point costs of all units on your Order of Battle is your Supply Used. At all times, your Supply Used must not exceed your Supply Limit. If you wish to add a new unit to your force but do not have enough unused supply, you must either remove existing units or expand your overall capacity.
Expanding your Supply Limit
As your campaign progresses, you will want to field larger armies and add new recruits. To expand your capacity, you spend Requisition Points (RP) on the Increase Supply Limitrequisition.
- Cost: 1 Requisition Point (RP).
- Effect: Increases your force's Supply Limit by +200 points.
- When to purchase: This can be purchased at any time between battles.
By spending RP on supply expansion, you can grow your Order of Battle from a 1000-point patrol into a massive 2000-point division or a 3000-point onslaught force.
Strategic RP allocation
Since Requisition Points are also used to purchase powerful character Enhancements (via Renowned Heroes) or heal battle damage (via Repair and Recuperate), deciding when to save RP for character upgrades versus when to spend it on expanding your Supply Limit is one of the most critical strategic choices in a Crusade campaign.
Adding and removing units
You can add new units to your Order of Battle at any time between games, provided you have the unused Supply Limit to fit them. Each new unit starts at 0 XP (Battle-ready) with a fresh Crusade Card.
If you are out of supply, you can remove a unit from your Order of Battle at any time. However, removing a unit is permanent — they are deleted from the campaign, and all their accumulated XP, Battle Honours, and history are lost. The points cost of the deleted unit is returned to your unused supply pool, allowing you to recruit something else.
Mustering your army vs. Supply Limit
It is important to distinguish between your Supply Limit and the Battle Size:
- Supply Limit: The total size of your master collection (e.g., 1400 points of units on your Order of Battle).
- Battle Size (Points Limit): The agreed size of a specific game you are playing (e.g., an Incursion match of 1000 points).
When you play a game, you must muster your army using only units listed on your Order of Battle. The total point cost of the units you choose to field in the match cannot exceed the agreed Battle Size, and you must follow standard mustering rules (e.g., including at least one Character and no more than 3 of the same non-Battleline datasheet).
