FAQ & Troubleshooting

Things that go wrong, and how to fix them. If your problem is not here, the Discord is the fastest way to get an answer.

General & Account Questions

Is Echelon free to use?

Yes. You can join unlimited campaigns as a player on any tier, and free tier hosts can run 1 active campaign for up to 4 players. See the Subscriptions & Tiers Guide for details.

How do I change the accent colour, or add custom banners?

The accent colour is free on every tier. Open Settings > Appearance from your profile menu and click a colour. It applies straight away, with nothing to save.

Custom banners and images need a Supporter or Commander subscription. Once subscribed you can upload a profile avatar, and campaign and roster banners from the edit screen of the campaign or roster itself.

Is Echelon made with AI?

Partly, and I would rather say so than have you find out. The code and most of the words started with an AI assistant, and the unit photos in the showcase are generated, because those armies are not mine to photograph.

Nothing inside Echelon touches your campaign. No AI reads it, and it never generates images for your Crusade Cards. There is a longer note about all of this at the bottom of the About page.

Roster & Order of Battle FAQ

How do I import my army list?

Export it from your list builder as .json, .ros or .rosz, then navigate to Order of Battle in Echelon, click Import Roster, and upload the file. .ros and .rosz come from BattleScribe, NewRecruit and several other builders, so most exports work without a conversion step. See the Importing Armies Guide.

What happens if my army points exceed my Supply Limit?

Your roster will display a Supply Warning. You cannot launch a match in live tracking mode until you increase your Supply Limit using 1 RP or retire units to bring your total points within limit.

Can I delete a unit without losing its battle history?

If you want to free up Supply Limit while preserving a unit's battle history, use Retire Unit instead of deleting. Retired units are moved to your Archived Units list.

Campaign Administration FAQ

How do I invite players to my campaign?

As Campaign Host, open your campaign and click Invite Players. The Share a link tab gives you a link to copy and send however you like, or post straight to WhatsApp, X, Reddit or Facebook. The Send an invite tab invites someone by name, username or email address, whether or not they have an Echelon account yet.

There is no join code. A player you have sent a link to either follows it, or opens Join a Crusade in the sidebar and pastes it into Invite link or token. See the Host Quickstart Guide.

What happens when my campaign reaches the player limit?

The limit depends on the host's tier: 4 players on Free, 8 on Supporter, 50 on Commander. Additional players trying to join are told the campaign is full for the host's current tier. Upgrading the host's account unlocks the extra slots immediately, without interrupting active games.

Can a Host correct a player's logged match score?

Not the score. Victory points can only be edited while the battle is still in progress, and each player files one post-battle report that cannot be filed again, so a finished battle keeps the result it was given.

Two things can still be put right:

  • The host can change a battle's name, mission, date, location, stage and narrative, with Edit battle on the battle page, until the battle is completed.
  • A player can correct their own unit's experience, battle tallies and Battle Scars on its Crusade Card, from their Order of Battle.

Why can I not see the reward on a Mission I have been given?

The host chose to keep it secret until it is earned. You will see that a reward exists, and the text once the host marks you as having passed. The reward is not sent to your browser before then, so there is nothing to find by looking for it.

Why can I not mark my own Mission complete?

Only the Campaign Host judges a Mission, which is what lets a hidden reward stay hidden from the player earning it. Agendas are the opposite: you pick those and you report them yourself.

Why can I not add a Mission to a battle that has finished?

A Completed, Cancelled or Archived battle is settled, and so are its Missions. Write them before the game. Missions scoped to a stage or to the whole campaign carry across every battle in range, which is usually what you want if you are adding one late.

Technical Troubleshooting

My import failed with a parsing error

  • Ensure you exported .json, .ros or .rosz rather than PDF, HTML or text.
  • Verify your .json file is uncompressed and not corrupted.

The Live Battle Companion lost internet connection during a match

Echelon caches live battle state locally in your browser. All scores, kill tallies, and turn updates will automatically synchronise to the server as soon as connection is restored.
