Post-Battle XP & Scars

The narrative heart of Warhammer 40,000 Crusade takes place after the final die is rolled. Echelon automates post-battle accounting — calculating XP gains, processing casualty tests, tracking permanent Battle Scars, and prompting unit rank-ups.

Role & Scope

  • Target User: All Players
  • Required Subscription: All Tiers
  • Prerequisites: A completed match in Echelon.

Post-Battle Resolution Workflow

Completed Match Result & Post-Battle Resolution screen

Step 1: Log Unit Kill Tallies & Agendas

  1. Click End Match & Log Results in the Live Battle Companion.
  2. For each unit participating in the match, record:
    • Kills Tally: Number of enemy units destroyed by this unit during the match.
    • Agenda Progress: Check off any Agendas successfully completed by the unit (e.g. Marked for Death, Search for Relics).

Automatic XP Calculation

Echelon automatically awards:

  • +1 XP to every unit that participated in the match.
  • +1 XP for every 3 enemy units destroyed by a unit.
  • +1 to +3 XP for completed Agenda conditions.
  • +1 XP for the nominated Battle Tallies / Marked for Greatness unit.

Step 2: Out of Action (Casualty) Tests

If any of your Crusade units were destroyed during the match, you must perform an Out of Action Test for each destroyed unit.

  1. In the post-battle screen, destroyed units will be marked with an Out of Action badge.
  2. Click Roll Casualty Test (or manually input a D6 roll result):
    • Roll 2–6 (Passed): The unit recovers without long-term injury.
    • Roll 1 (Failed): You must choose one of the following consequences:
      • Devastating Blow: The unit loses 1 RP or 1 XP (cannot drop below current rank baseline).
      • Battle Scar: The unit suffers a permanent Battle Scar.

Step 3: Selecting Battle Scars

If a unit fails its Casualty Test and suffers a Battle Scar:

  1. Click Select Battle Scar.
  2. Choose from the official Crusade Scar tables (or input a custom scar):
    • Deep Wounds (-1 to Advance and Charge rolls)
    • Crippled Structure (-1 Movement)
    • Disgraced (Cannot be selected for Marked for Greatness)
  3. Click Apply Scar. The scar will be recorded on the Crusade Card.

Healing Battle Scars

Battle Scars remain on a unit until removed. You can spend 1 RP on the Rearm & Resupply Requisition outside of battle to cure a Battle Scar.

Step 4: Processing Rank Ups & Battle Honours

If a unit gains enough XP to cross a rank threshold, a Rank Up notification will appear:

  1. Click Claim Battle Honour.
  2. Select the Honour type:
    • Battle Trait: Narrative stat buff or special rule.
    • Weapon Modification: Stat boost applied to a specific ranged or melee weapon on the card.
    • Crusade Relic: Powerful artifact equipped to Character units.
  3. Click Save Honour.
