What's New
Every release that changed something you can see, newest first. Bugs are named plainly rather than tidied away, because the person who hit one deserves to recognise it.
The full technical changelog lives in the repository and is written for developers. This page is not that.
v1.32.0: Your edition, settled up front
18 September 2026
New
- Choose the edition when you create a campaign: the wizard's first step has an Edition choice beside the name, with the Supply Limit underneath, because those are the two things a group has to agree before anyone builds a list. Hosting a campaign
Improved
- New campaigns start on 11th Edition. Campaigns already running keep whatever they had. A group playing 10th can pick it in the wizard, or change Ruleset Edition under Edit Campaign. Do it before anyone imports, because imports are checked against the edition.
- The wizard says which lists it'll take. The roster step names your campaign's edition before you export from NewRecruit or BattleScribe, and the last step shows it again beside links to the guides, help centre and Discord.
- Stepping back to step 1 starts the Supply Limit slider at the value you saved, since a saved limit can only go up. It used to offer lower values that only earned an error on Next.
- The setup checklist on a campaign's Overview tells the truth now. You can start without every player readied up, and a banner is the only Supporter part of customising.
Fixed
- Email invites to someone without an Echelon account showed up as "Unknown User" in Pending Invites. The host sees the address now, everyone else sees "Invited by email", and both get "Not on Echelon yet" underneath.
- Hosts were offered Edit on finished battles, on the battle page and in the Stages list, and only found out it wouldn't save after filling in the form. It's gone once a battle is completed, cancelled or archived. You can still add photos.
The Munitorum has updated its forms. They now ask which edition you're fighting.
v1.31.0: The word gets round your campaign
18 September 2026
New
- A new chapter comes by email: when the host opens one, the rest of the campaign gets an email as well as the line in their inbox. It sits under the campaign activity switch with the others. What arrives, and how to quieten it
- Invite links, shared where your group talks: opening the invite dialog doesn't make a link any more. Press Get invite link when you want one, then post it to WhatsApp, X, Reddit or Facebook, or copy it as before.
- Changing plan changes your tier: move between Supporter and Commander under Settings > Account & Billing and your tier follows, in either direction.
Improved
- The bell clears when you look. Opening Notifications marks what the panel shows as read. Mark all read is for anything further down.
- The Discord promo is six months now, down from a year, and it goes on the monthly Commander plan only. A code redeemed before 18 September keeps its twelve months. The annual checkout doesn't take codes any more, so a free stretch can't end in a full-price annual charge you'd forgotten agreeing to.
Fixed
- Pressing Connect under Settings > Linked Accounts failed for everyone with "Manual linking is disabled", and Disconnect was broken the same way. Both work. If either fails again, you'll get a reason rather than a raw error.
- Replying to an email from Echelon bounced, because the address it came from can't receive mail. Replies reach a real inbox now.
- A host inviting by link wasn't told the campaign was full, so the first anyone knew was a player failing to join. The warning sits above both tabs.
The astropaths are taking replies now. Someone even reads them.
v1.30.0: Wide screens, and armies in order
9 September 2026
New
- Transports and deployment zones: when you muster, load a unit into a transport and say where it starts. Deep Strike and Strategic Reserves are both there, and an attached leader rides along with the unit it joined.
- The Order of Battle groups by unit role: Characters, Battleline, Vehicles and the rest, each one collapsible, so a forty-unit Crusade Force stops being one long scroll. The Order of Battle
- Missions sit beside Agendas and Requisitions in the battle view now, rather than off on their own.
Improved
- Wide screens get used. The campaign overview, the stages list, your Battle Station and the leaderboard spread into the room a big monitor gives them, rather than holding a narrow column down the middle. Pages still stop widening before the text gets hard to read.
- The force sheet puts Requisitions and the Chronicle side by side on an ordinary desktop, and fits three Crusade Cards across, four when there's room.
- The Army shape breakdown carries unit counts, and splits your force by rank as well as by role.
Fixed
- The leaderboard table had stopped filling its card, and the battles column went missing when the window was narrow. Both sorted.
- Row dividers had vanished from the roster's mobile list view, so units ran together. They're back, plus a handful of smaller fixes to keyboard and touch controls and to long narrative text on wide screens.
Filed correctly for the first time in ten thousand years.
v1.29.0: You'll know what needs doing
5 September 2026
New
- Notifications: an inbox in the app, with a count on the bell. An invite, a battle put on the board, a battle finished, a chapter opened or closed, a mission handed to you, a report you still owe. What arrives, and how to quieten it
- My Battle Station: the campaigns page is now a dashboard. It opens with what you owe and what's coming, across every campaign you're in, rather than making you remember which one needed you.
- What's New: this page. Linked from the menu, so a release stops being something you notice by accident. Read it
Improved
- The sidebar earns its space on the dashboard, listing your active campaigns and the two ways into another one.
- Email is narrower than the inbox, on purpose. Only the things that need something from you leave the app: an invite, a report you owe, a mission, an empty force. Battles and chapters stay in the inbox where the rest of the campaign is. Three separate switches, so silencing one kind never costs you another.
Fixed
- A Crusade Card's weapon table ran off the side of the card on a narrow screen. It stacks now.
- Hosts running a campaign as a GM were told their own Crusade force was empty, permanently, with nothing to dismiss. If you haven't picked a faction, the app stops asking.
- When two battles in a chapter finished close together, everyone was told the chapter had closed twice.
The Administratum has issued you a filing tray. It is already full.
v1.28.0: Your Crusade's story, on the record
5 September 2026
New
- Story beats: write the turning points of your campaign and pin each one to the whole campaign, a stage, or a single battle. Photos welcome. How story beats work
- Missions: hand a player their own objective on top of the battle's mission, with a reward and an optional penalty. Keep the reward hidden until it's earned if you like. Every assignee is judged separately, so one can pass while another fails. How missions work
- Codex & House Rules now sit on your Chronicle tab, for the faction rules that aren't an Agenda, Requisition, Battle Trait, Relic, Stratagem or Enhancement.
- BattleScribe rosters: .ros and .rosz files import straight in, alongside NewRecruit's JSON. Importing armies
- Print your Crusade Force Sheet: your force, every Crusade Card with its Battle Honours and Battle Scars, and the chronicle of the battles it fought, as one document to print or save as a PDF. Supporter and up. Exporting and printing
Improved
- The campaigns page lists what you still owe. An unfiled post-battle report now finds you, instead of waiting quietly on a battle page you weren't going to open. There's a reminder email as well.
Fixed
- If a host started a battle before you'd mustered, you could never file your report. The submit button sat disabled and the battle couldn't be finished. It files now, muster or no muster.
Your orders are written down. So is what happens if you ignore them.
v1.27.0: Darker, faster, and open for coffee
30 August 2026
New
- Buy me a coffee: a one-off contribution, no account needed. It's not a subscription and it unlocks nothing. Sign in first and you'll get the Donor badge and the Discord Supporter role with it.
- A rebuilt front page: it leads on 11th Edition and shows what a Crusade actually looks like in Echelon, on a phone as well as a laptop. Worth a look if you've been meaning to drag someone into your campaign.
Improved
- The app is darker. The background drops to a near-neutral, so your unit photos and Crusade Cards carry the colour instead of fighting a navy page for it.
- It loads quicker. Every signed-in page was downloading a large bundle of icons it never used. That's gone, and the whole app now downloads less than that one file used to be.
Fixed
- On a phone, the Order of Battle squashed unit names down to a few letters to make room for the honours chip next to them. The chip shows just its count on narrow screens now, and the name gets the room back.
- Clicking from one guide into another opened the next page half way down, wherever you happened to be scrolled to. Forward navigation starts at the top. Back and forward still land where you left off.
- The drifting starfield carried on drifting even if you'd asked your device for reduced motion. It paints once and holds still.
Lumens dimmed, engines tuned, and the kettle's on.
v1.26.0: Eleventh Edition, and the battle page rebuilt
20 August 2026. Covers v1.22.0 to v1.26.0.
New
- Invite by email: hosts can invite people who don't have an Echelon account yet.
- Game Mode: the battle page rebuilt around the round tracker, with stratagems coloured by whose turn it is, phase glyphs, running battle totals, and photos added in batches.
- 11th Edition: take up to three detachments against a Detachment Points budget, pick a Force Disposition at muster, and get detachment and army rules filled in from a catalogue of 284. NewRecruit 11e exports import, Crusade lists included. Detachment rules
- House-rule Requisition Points: log the RP your group agreed to grant or dock, and edit custom requisitions after making them. Requisitions
Improved
- Commander campaigns hold far more players, up from 20, with searchable participant pickers. What each tier includes
- Faction is now a defined list with icons instead of free text.
- Unit photos load a great deal faster.
Fixed
- Crusade Points typed into a card could vanish before you saved.
- Editing a Crusade Card erased the Crusade Points a relic had granted.
- Rapid taps on the round tracker went uncounted, so kills and VP came out low.
- A restored muster lost its leaders and enhancements.
- A unit that passed its Out of Action test still took a Battle Scar.
- Core stratagems were listed twice, 22 instead of 11.
- The player limit you set on a campaign was shown but never enforced, so a host who capped at 8 still collected far more. If yours already sits over its limit, raise it before anyone can join.
Five releases in one dispatch. The Administratum apologises for the backlog.
v1.21.0: Invite anyone, account or not
2 August 2026
New
- Invite by email address: invite someone who has never used Echelon. They get an email, and the invite is waiting for them whether they follow the link or just sign up later. Inviting someone who already has an account works exactly as before.
Improved
- Crusade emails now carry the Echelon mark and wordmark, and render properly in Outlook instead of collapsing into a wall of text.
Fixed
- The settings page went blank when you saved a preference. It stays put now.
- Pasting an email address with a stray space around it was rejected as invalid. It's accepted and tidied up.
- Inviting the same address twice now tells you an invite is already pending instead of failing with an unhelpful error.
- Email invites didn't show up in the campaign's pending list, and hosts had no way to cancel one sent to the wrong address. Both work now.
- Invites can no longer be accepted into a campaign that has already been completed or archived.
The summons now reaches those who have not yet enlisted.
v1.20.0: Out of Action tests, done properly
2 August 2026
Improved
- Starting a campaign is much quicker. Step 1 used to ask for five things before you'd seen anything. Now it asks for one: a name. Description, Campaign Chronicle, cover banner and supply limit all moved behind an optional Customise section, to fill in now, later, or never.
- You build your own roster before the invite step, so there's something to show your group when you send the link.
- Save & exit genuinely resumes where you left off, instead of dropping you back at step 1 with a campaign you'd already made. Every optional step says so plainly, and skipping one costs you nothing.
Fixed
Out of Action tests were wrong. A unit that went Out of Action always took a Battle Scar or was destroyed outright. That is not the rule: the test is passed on a 2+, so most destroyed units should walk away untouched. All four outcomes are recorded now.
- Passed (2+): nothing happens to the unit. XP is still awarded.
- Battle Scar: as before. One Crusade Point off, and no more than three scars on a unit.
- Devastating Blow: new. Lose one existing Battle Honour instead of taking a scar.
- Destroyed: permanent removal from your Order of Battle.
A unit sitting at three scars with no honours left is the rulebook's permanent-removal case, and Echelon says so.
Worth a look at your Order of Battle
Existing data was left untouched, so scars applied under the old behaviour are still there. If a unit got scarred when it should have passed its test, you can remove the scar from that unit's Crusade Card.
Full detail in the Out of Action tests guide.
v1.19.0: Solo play, and notifications that reach you
31 July 2026. Covers v1.18.0 and v1.19.0.
New
- Solo play. You no longer need an opponent to use Echelon. A campaign with just you in it is fully playable: stages, Order of Battle, XP, ranks, Battle Honours, all of it. Log a battle on your own and you report the result yourself, because with no second army to compare victory points against, Echelon won't guess on your behalf.
- An in-app inbox, in the menu, with an unread count on the menu button so you can see it without digging. Accept or decline an invite straight from it.
- Email, when someone invites you to a Crusade and when a battle is waiting on your post-battle report. One toggle in Settings → Email Notifications turns them off.
Fixed
- Battles that used to get stuck. If you've ever had a battle sit in Post-Battle forever waiting on someone, it now shows who it's waiting on, and hosts can complete it without a player who has gone quiet. That player can still file their report afterwards and claim their XP. Battles already stuck from before the fix were swept too, so if one of yours quietly moved to Completed, that is why.
- Creating a battle moves a campaign from Planning to Active automatically.
- Colour contrast and keyboard navigation across the nav.
v1.17.0: Invites and identity
30 July 2026
New
- Take an invite back. Hosts can cancel a pending invite from the Participants tab. The player can still be invited again later, so a mis-click costs you nothing.
Improved
- Your display name, everywhere. Echelon used to show your username in some places and your display name in others. Display name now wins everywhere other players see you: leaderboards, battle screens, participant lists, the lot. Set it in Settings. If two players share a display name, an
@usernameappears underneath so you can tell them apart. With no display name set, you just see your username, and no duplicate. - Find players by the name you actually know. Inviting someone searches display names as well as usernames and email.
- Participants list rebuilt. Cleaner rows, and long names no longer collide with the remove button. Bigger tap targets throughout.
Fixed
- Requisitions could be bought twice for the price of one. Two purchases firing at the same moment could both read the same RP balance, so one of them was effectively free. Both routes are closed.
v1.16.2: Battle system fixes
27 July 2026
Fixed
- Starting a battle needed the campaign host, even when the host was not playing in it. Once every participant has mustered, any of them can start it.
- Creating a battle now supports the +/- points tolerance you set.
- The warnings for starting a battle before its scheduled date and time are gone.
- A battle not ended by the campaign host logged a 0-0 draw.
- Plus a handful of smaller data-integrity fixes.
v1.16.0: New Crusade tools
25 July 2026
New
- Install it like an app. Echelon is a proper app now: add it to your home screen on mobile or desktop and launch it like any other. Do this from the website, not the App Store or Play Store, where it is not yet listed.
- A campaign setup checklist. Hosts and players get a step-by-step setup rail on their campaign: create stages, invite players, build your roster, personalise your force. No more guessing what is left to do before your first battle.
- Planet art for stages. Give each campaign stage its own planet, picked from a stock art library, and it renders as a glowing orb behind the stage header. Purely cosmetic, and it gives each stage its own character.
Improved
- 11th Edition. Enhancement targeting respects your edition's ruleset, and NewRecruit imports are smarter about flagging mismatched exports.
- Redesigned mobile nav. A cleaner floating nav bar with a dedicated menu button. Less clutter, easier to reach.
Plus a pile of bug fixes and polish.
v1.15.0: The Campaign Chronicle
22 July 2026
New
- Campaign Chronicle. Every campaign gets its own Chronicle, a host-editable narrative section for tracking your Crusade's story, separate from the campaign description.
- Change your account email from your profile page, rather than contacting support to do it.
Improved
- Free-tier limits, now visible. Free-tier hosts can see exactly where they stand on hosted-campaign and participant caps in the UI, with a heads-up before you hit the wall instead of a surprise. Subscriptions and tiers
- Several of the most-used help centre guides have real screenshots instead of just text.
v1.14.0: Invite links, and more
20 July 2026
New
- A refund policy page, linked from the footer.
Improved
- Better campaign invite links. Share one link with your whole gaming group at once, instead of sending a one-time link to each person individually. Hosts can revoke and regenerate a link at any time, so if it gets shared somewhere you didn't intend, you can shut it down and get a fresh one straight away.
- Muster summary polish. Enhancement descriptions show up in your muster summary, so you don't have to dig through your roster to remember what a relic or warlord trait does.
