A Crusade game asks you to remember more than a matched play one. On top of the score, you need to know which enemy units each of your units destroyed, because kills turn into XP, and which of your own units were destroyed, because each one takes an Out of Action test afterwards. Lose track of either and the post-battle sequence turns into guesswork.
The companion records the score, the kills and the casualties. Command Points, battle phases and Agenda progress stay on the table, so keep those however you already do.
Made for a Phone or Tablet
The companion is laid out for a touch screen propped beside the board. Add Echelon to your home screen as a Progressive Web App (PWA) and it opens full screen, without the browser's address bar. It still needs a connection to save your scores.
What the Live Battle Companion Tracks
Once a battle has started, its page switches between two views at the top, Round Tracker and Army:
- Round Tracker: rounds 1 to 5. Each round holds your Primary and Secondary VP and a kill counter for every unit you mustered, with your totals for the battle so far above them. Lock round freezes your own entries for that round.
- Kills This Round, on the Round Tracker: press + on a unit's row when it destroys an enemy unit, or the red cross when it is destroyed itself. Both carry into the post-battle report, so kill XP and Out of Action tests come from what happened rather than from memory.
- Army: the Crusade Cards of the units you mustered, with their stats, weapons, honours and scars, plus your Stratagems, Detachment Rules, Agendas and Battle Traits. It is reference only.

How to Use the Live Battle Companion (Step-by-Step)
- 1
Muster Your Force
Open the battle in your campaign. The Campaign Host sets its points limit when creating it. Choose your units within that limit, pick up to three Agendas and any Requisitions, then click Ready Up. - 2
Start the Battle
Once every player has mustered, any player in the battle, or the Campaign Host, clicks Start Battle. There is nothing else to open: the battle page becomes the companion, with a Round Tracker view and an Army view. - 3
Score Each Round & Count Kills
On the Round Tracker, raise your Primary and Secondary VP as you score them. Press + on a unit's row when it destroys an enemy unit, and the red cross when one of your own units is destroyed. Lock round freezes your entries for that round. - 4
End the Battle
Every player clicks End Battle. Once all have voted, the result is worked out from Victory Points. If someone cannot vote, the Campaign Host can click End without agreement and set the result in Confirm Battle Result. Each player then fills in their Post-Battle Sequence: Agendas, Out of Action tests, Marked for Greatness and Requisitions.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Live Battle Companion in Echelon?
It is the battle page while a game is in progress, used as a scorecard. It records your Primary and Secondary Victory Points round by round, the enemy units each of your units destroys, and which of your units went out of action. It does not track Command Points or battle phases, and Agendas are ticked off in the post-battle report rather than during the game.
Does the Live Battle Companion work offline during tabletop games?
No. Each entry saves to Echelon as you make it, so the companion needs a connection to record anything. If the signal drops mid-game, note the scores for that stretch on paper and enter them once you are back online. The arrows beside the round number take you back to an earlier round.
How does the Live Battle Companion handle post-battle XP calculation?
Your Post-Battle Sequence opens with the kills and casualties from the Round Tracker already filled in. Every unit that took part gains 1 XP, plus 1 XP for every third enemy unit on its kill tally, which carries over from earlier battles. You tick the Agendas you achieved for their bonus XP, nominate one unit as Marked for Greatness for 3 XP, and record the Out of Action test you rolled for each unit that was destroyed.
Can both players view and update scores during the match?
Each player opens the battle on their own phone or tablet and records their own side. The battle details at the top of the page show every player's running Victory Points and kills, updated every few seconds.
