Campaign Host Quickstart Guide

As a Campaign Host (Campaign Master), Echelon provides you with centralized command tools to manage multi-player narrative leagues, structure narrative Stages, invite players, enforce house rules, and track campaign standings.

Role & Scope

  • Target User: Campaign Hosts & Organisers
  • Required Subscription: Free Tier (Up to 4 players per campaign) | Commander Tier (Unlimited players & advanced features)
  • Prerequisites: An active Echelon account.

Host Workflow Overview

Step 1: Create a New Campaign

  1. Log into Echelon and navigate to Campaigns in the main navigation.
  2. Click the + Create Campaign button.
  3. Complete the setup form:
    • Campaign Name: Give your campaign a unique title (e.g., The Vigilus Defiant Narrative).
    • System / Edition: Select Warhammer 40K 10th/11th Edition Crusade.
    • Description: Add background narrative context, meeting schedule, or local club details.
    • Initial Supply Limit: Set the baseline starting supply limit for new players (Default: 1,000 pts).
  4. Click Create Campaign.

Setup Checklist

Once your campaign exists, the overview page shows a short setup checklist — create your first stage, invite players, build your own roster, and (on Supporter) add a banner image. It's derived from your actual campaign data, not a one-time wizard, so it stays accurate even if you come back to finish a step later. If you'd rather skip the banner step for now, Not Interested dismisses it without blocking the rest of the checklist.

Step 2: Configure Stages & Narrative Phases

Campaigns in Echelon are organized into Stages (e.g., Phase 1: Scout Incursion, Phase 2: Planetary Assault, Phase 3: Final Siege).

  1. Open your newly created campaign and click Campaign Settings > Stages.
  2. Click + Add Stage.
  3. Define the Stage Parameters:
    • Stage Name: e.g., Phase I: Planetfall.
    • Duration: Set start and end dates or target battle counts.
    • Mustering Point Limit: Set the maximum match size allowed during this phase (e.g., 1,000 pts for Phase I, 1,500 pts for Phase II).
    • Special Stage Rules: Enable specific stage bonuses (e.g., +1 RP bonus for victories, Environmental Hazards).
  4. Click Save Stage.

Structuring Campaign Escalation

Gradually increasing the point limit across Stages (e.g., 1,000 pts -> 1,500 pts -> 2,000 pts) lets players naturally grow their Order of Battle and add new veteran units as the narrative unfolds.

Step 3: Invite Players & Distribute Join Codes

  1. Navigate to the Overview or Participants tab of your campaign.
  2. Locate the Campaign Join Code badge (a 6-character alphanumeric code, e.g., WAR-40K).
  3. Click Copy Invite Link or share the code directly with your players via Discord, email, or tabletop group chat.
  4. When players enter the code, they will appear in your Pending Participants or Active Roster list.

Participant Limits by Subscription Tier

  • Free Host Account: Allows up to 4 total players per campaign.
  • Supporter Host Account: Allows up to 8 total players per campaign.
  • Commander Host Account: Allows unlimited players, custom faction branding, and automated stage scheduling. For more details, view the Subscriptions & Tiers Guide.

Step 4: Manage Participants & Campaign Standings

As Host, you manage campaign settings, participant access, and administrative adjustments.

  1. Go to Participants to view joined players and overall campaign standings.
  2. Host Administrative Permissions:
    • Adjust RP / Supply: Manually award or deduct RP for narrative achievements or catch-up rules.
    • Share Join Code: Manage invite codes and remove inactive participants if needed.

Step 5: Advance Stages & Determine Victory

As matches are logged using the Live Battle Companion, campaign standings, territorial control, and alliance scores update automatically in real-time.

  1. Track progression on the Campaign Dashboard.
  2. When a Stage reaches its target battle limit or date:
    • Go to Stages.
    • Click Complete Current Stage.
    • Select the winning faction or player alliance to apply narrative rewards.
    • Activate the next narrative Stage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I edit a match result if a player made a logging mistake?

Yes. As Host, go to Campaigns > Battle Logs, locate the match, click Edit Match, and update the scores, casualties, or XP entries.

How do I handle asymmetric player counts or drop-in players?

Echelon supports drop-in players at any time. When a new player joins mid-campaign, they receive the standard starting 5 RP and baseline supply limit, or you can grant them bonus catch-up RP using the Host Adjust RP tool.
